Lecture: Spine Registries
Registries belong to observational studies and possess the unique real-life aspect along with several other specifics discriminating them from interventional controlled studies. There is a strong rationale for spine registries, while numerous prerequisites need to be given for a successful registry project. Spine care is a multidimensional construct including history of disease, patient status at baseline, risk factors, treatment, physician skills, implants if implant-based surgery, postoperative care and rehabilitation. Therefore, it is difficult to find universal quality indicators. Importantly, both physician and patient perspectives and information on the initial status at baseline and risk factors for case-mix adjustments are needed for accurate interpretation of registry results.
