Dr Javier Pizones is a highly experienced Spine Surgeon and a key member of the eccElearning Spine Surgery Education Programme faculty. The Spine Surgery Education Programme contains 180 Spine Surgery Lectures, and contains Specialist Certificates and the full Postgraduate Diploma in Spine Surgery. The eccElearning Faculty is made up of over 140 expert spine surgeons and educators. They have collectively supported the development of the world’s first comprehensive, online postgraduate education programme in a medical sub-speciality, spine surgery.

Lecture: Idiopathic Scoliosis and Its Natural History
This lecture looks at the natural history of idiopathic scoliosis, beginning with the behavior of this curve through various stages of skeletal maturity. The various health related outcome parameters in adulthood are then examined. The follow up of patients who were either neglected or had been managed conservatively is discussed, followed by the cosmetic impairment, and also the life threatening issues, including cardiac and pulmonary function.
Lecture: Hyperkyphosis and Scheuermann Disease
This lecture looks at the hyperkyphosis affecting the pediatric population, beginning with a discussion of the etiological causes and the clinical presentation. The various types and their salient features are explained. The management options discussed include conservative and surgical options. The surgical indications are defined. The surgical procedures are discussed with reference to various types encountered clinically, and the decision-making regarding fusion levels is covered. Finally, various clinical complications are presented and strategies to decrease them are suggested.
