What you will cover in this lecture
This spine surgery lecture covers the operative management of axial neck pain.
The author looks at the surgical outcome of such cases in which the indications had been suspected facet joint pain or suspected discogenic pain, in the absence of conditions such as trauma, instability, infection or tumour, and the surgical decision is based purely on sypmtomatology alone.
The treatment modalities discussed include fusion surgery, motion preservation surgery and injection therapy.
The author then discusses two key articles by Carrages (2008) and Middlekoop (2013), and looks at the set of complications which resulted due to the interventions mentioned in the articles.
The decision making is then simplified in the conclusion.
