What you will cover in this lecture
This spine surgery lecture covers spinal tuberculosis diagnostic tests and medical management. Histopathological confirmation is the gold standard for diagnosis. Other tests such as ESR, white cell counts, CRP and Tuberculin tests provide supportive evidence. Radiographs are the first line of investigation but diagnose the disease late. MRI shows early infective features, the status of the cord, and helps in assessing treatment response. The advent of chemotherapy has significantly improved outcome in patients with tuberculosis. Anti tubercular drugs are able to achieve therapeutic levels in caseous tissues and abscesses. If initiated early, complications of tuberculosis like deformity and neurological deficits can be avoided.

Q: What do I do if I fail a Lecture Assessment?
A: You are permitted to retake a Lecture Assessment up to two times. The Lecture Assessment will be made available to you again 14 days after a failed attempt. If you’ve failed the Lecture Assessment three times, please get in contact with us to discuss your options.
